AR app Blippar wins LeWeb’s London startup competition

Augmented reality and image recognition app Blippar just won the startup competition at LeWeb2012 in London.

The startup is already known for its augmented reality work with brands like Marmite, Guinness, the Guardian newspaper and Kit Kat.

The event saw a number of hot competitors present their pitches in rounds to assorted judges yesterday and the finalists were picked out to present to a wide audience at the closing of the conference.

In third place, Teleportd launched an image search service that pulls in images across user generated sites like Twitpic and Instagram.

Second prize went to Hojoki, a mobile way of pulling in social platforms to one place for easy comprehension.

Each in their own way represented the theme of the event, “Faster than Real Time” as the immediacy of social networks was reflected and the startling instant popups of augmented reality technology played their part.

All three companies won prizes from Hewlett Packard, a nice glass trophy and a huge slab of chocolate decorated with the LeWeb logo.

In each case the pitches were slick and the products were well developed. They will doubtless all be businesses we will be following in the future.
