Uber arrives in Moscow, its first Eastern European city

One week after cruising into Tokyo, Uber has announced its first foray into Eastern Europe today, kicking off in Moscow.

Uber’s driver-for-hire service that lets you beckon a classy car with a few clicks of your smartphone has been expanding wildly in recent times, and is now available in dozens of cities across 22 countries.

Uber’s not the first such service on the scene in Moscow though – GetTaxi has been operating there for a while already. But with a population of more than eleven million, there is plenty of scope for growth in the Russian capital.

As with all its local launches, ‘secret Ubers’ started arriving in Moscow today, including artist, model and singer Tanya Tereshina, the very first Uber rider in the city.
