SHAPE THE FUTURE

On October 2, 2020, TNW and the Financial Times will bring together European policy-makers and business and technology leaders to discuss actionable solutions to tech policy challenges. This invitation-only gathering, which we call The Assembly, will take place during TNW2020 – Europe’s leading tech festival.

THIS YEAR’S THEME

BALANCING REGULATION AND INNOVATION

This year's edition of The Assembly will provide a platform for policy-makers, tech giants and corporate leaders to find common ground.

Currently, regulators lack the information they need to respond most effectively to the opportunities around innovation and the challenges around both the use of data and the dissemination of online content. The Assembly will discuss in detail how business leaders and regulators can work together to build the most conducive environment for regulation and innovation to co-exist and contribute positively to society.

These issues have become a key point of debate during the pandemic, as some governments implement sophisticated surveillance technology to enforce quarantines and track social behaviour, while on the other hand deep business and financial uncertainty has led to a growing reliance on Big Tech services and platforms.

Key Questions:

  • How have regulation efforts been impacted by the increasing reliance on technology firms during the crisis?
  • During the pandemic, certain data privacy rules were breached to enable surveillance. How will the use of these tools be regulated going forward?
  • How can governments and Big Tech collaborate to rebuild eco-systems after the pandemic?
  • How should regulators tackle the transformative potential of artificial intelligence and 5G?
What to expect?
