This Indian bank now lets customers transfer money via Twitter

This Indian bank now lets customers transfer money via Twitter

Indian bank ICICI has announced that its customers based in India can now send money to other people via Twitter.

The move makes it the first bank in the country to allow transfers via Twitter, and alongside sending money, also lets customers to check their account balance or view the last three transactions on their account. It also allows users to replenish credit on a pre-pay mobile account.

Any ICICI Bank customer (with a Twitter account and registered mobile number) can use the service and the recipient doesn’t need to be an ICICI customer, the company said.

While it’s the first bank in India to facilitate service via Twitter, it follows French banking group BPCE, which started allowing customers to tweet money to each other towards the end of 2014.
