Sony is delaying the launch of its PlayStation 4 gaming console in China due to “various factors,” including prolonged negotiations with local authorities, reports Reuters.
The PS4 was slated to go on sale in China on Jan 11, along with the portable PS Vita. By then, the console will already have been over a year late as compared to other markets including the US.
Foreign consoles had been banned in the country for 14 years until last January. Sony had prepared extensively for the launch in China, signing up several local game developers and publishers to launch content for the PS4, and promising to offer quality after-sales service across the nation too.
Sony has not set a release date for China yet. The company is no doubt anxious to enter the world’s third-largest gaming market to grow its PS4 sales figures, which totaled 18.5 million worldwide at the end of 2014.
