Japanese ad tech firm Geniee lands $1.3m from GREE Ventures

GREE Ventures, the corporate investment arm of Japanese social mobile gaming giant GREE, has invested approximately 100 million yen (roughly $1.3 million – PDF, in Japanese) in Tokyo-based advertising technology company Geniee.

Geniee has developed a system that facilitates real-time bidding for targeted online advertising, and also operates a demand-side platform for Internet media publishers.

According to local reports, over 1,000 publishers currently use Geniee technology to display around 10 billion ad impressions per month.

The fresh funding will be used for hiring and to boost its presence in Asia and explore business opportunities in North America (much like GREE is doing).

Geniee was founded in April 2010 and is privately held.

On a sidenote: GREE, the parent company of GREE Ventures, acquired Tokyo-based ad exchange service Atlantis for 2.2 billion yen ($26 million) in early 2011.
