After months of rumors, the official announcement has been made Netflix is coming to the Nintendo Wii this Spring.
Current Netflix customers who have the $8.99 per month plan (or higher), have a Wii, and a broadband internet connection can start using the service with no additional fees.
However similar to the Playstation 3 Netflix system, in order to use Netflix on the Wii a disc needs to be inserted. Netflix customers can reserve a disc from www.netflix.com/Wii and the discs will be shipped free of charge this Spring.
This brings Netflix to all 3 major gaming consoles; xbox 360, Playstation 3, and now the Wii, making it a default choice for streaming video in the living rooms of gamers.
Whomever is responsible for all of these deals is doing an amazing job, it’s no small challenge to work with Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo simultaneously but Netflix has managed to do it. Not to mention also working with Samsung, and other manufacturers to embed Netflix streaming service into HDTVs and Bluray Players.
Now what I’d like to see next is bringing Netflix into more international markets. I for one would love to be able to watch Netflix movies on my Wii here in Japan, and I’m sure many people in countries around the world would like to see the same!
