Tumblr’s new Labs tool lets you test features before they become mainstream

Tumblr’s new Labs tool lets you test features before they become mainstream

Tumblr is taking a page out of Google’s book with a new Labs feature. As with Gmail Labs, Tumblr Labs lets you try out new features before they hit the mainstream – if they ever do.

So far, the list includes four features:

  • Themed Posts – Changes the color of a post to match the color of its Tumblr
  • Reblog Graphs – Adds a button on posts that shows you a map of reblog patterns.
  • Queue+ – Fine-grained scheduling options for your queue of posts.
  • Inside Tumblrs – Meant for group blogs. Private ones will show up in your dash, and public ones can have “Members only” posts for members-only business.

The company warns that features can be added and removed without warning, and that while the feature are safe, they may not always work properly, especially if changes are rolled out to the core Tumblr platform.

To try the features out, log in from the Web and visit the Labs settings menu, then toggle the switch to begin testing features.
