WordPress adds post embedding and REST API integration to its latest version

WordPress adds post embedding and REST API integration to its latest version

WordPress, the wildly popular CMS that powers 25 percent of all of the planet’s websites, has received an update with a raft of new features, including the ability to share entire posts on other sites.

Version 4.4, dubbed ‘Clifford’ in honor of jazz trumpeter Clifford Brown, brings support for responsive images so they now automatically resize to suit any screen size.

You can also embed WordPress posts on any site, just as you’d embed a tweet or YouTube clip, using its URL or a snippet of code. Embedded posts will display a title, excerpt and featured image, as well as a site icon and links for comments and sharing.

WordPress now also has REST API infrastructure baked in to allow developers a way to build and extend RESTful APIs on top of the CMS. Future WordPress updates will add core endpoints, which you can preview right now in the official REST API plugin.

There’s also a new mobile-first theme named Twenty Sixteen to try out. And in the dashboard, you’ll now be able to add colors and icons to categories so they’re easier to find.
