Square now lets you tweet political donations

Square has teamed up with Twitter to let you easily send cash donations to US presidential and local campaigns that you support.

Once a candidate has signed up for Square’s new program, they can then tweet a unique URL called a Cashtag to request donations from their followers.

The tweet includes a button that donors can click to initiate a payment using their debit card and FEC-required information.

Twitter’s head of political advertising sales Jenna Golden said, “We want people to have the opportunity to utilize this in the midst of key moments,” as the feature launches ahead of Wednesday’s Republican presidential debate.

Golden added that 12 presidential candidates have already signed up to the program.
