MixRadio, the music streaming service that Microsoft sold last year to messaging app Line, is not just for Windows anymore. Previously only on the Windows Phone, the app has now branched out to iOS and Android.
The service, developed by Nokia in 2007, was later bundled into the company’s sale to Microsoft. But since Microsoft already had Xbox Music, it decided to spin off the service to Line last December.
Starting today, everyone can enjoy the free app that lets you discover fresh music on a daily basis. As you use MixRadio, it learns your tastes to give you a more personalized experience. The app draws from its library of some 35 million tracks to formulate personalized playlists that you can download and listen to offline.
In addition, MixRadio has announced a co-marketing partnership with HTC in which it will exclusively provide music updates for HTC’s BlinkFeed, notifying users about new available mixes. Click on a mix in the feed and it goes to MixRadio to play. MixRadio also plans to add editorial content and other news in the future.
MixRadio’s expansion comes amid a hotbed of activity in the genre. A Spotify event tomorrow will likely reveal news about that service, while listeners anticipate more information about Apple’s new Beats music service.
MixRadio, which is ad supported, is free of charge. The service is available in 31 countries, including the US, Brazil, India and China.
