Fountain, the marketplace for advice started by Mint.com founder Aaron Patzer, is expanding its platform to third parties from today, allowing individuals to earn money giving expert help to the public.
While Fountain’s in-house offering remains connecting people with experts in the home and garden field, the new Experts program allows anyone to set up a page on fountain.com, the URL of which they can share with clients or friends.
Each ‘expert’ can list three areas of expertise. Fountain’s two-way video chat via the Web or an iOS app then allows each expert to give help for a fee. The startup handles the billing and takes a 5 percent cut.
The move pushes Fountain towards its goal of being a micro-consulting destination for both personal and professional assistance. I talked to Patzer about Fountain and its ambitions earlier this year, so it’s worth catching up by taking a listen.
