To contribute to the search for missing children, Waze today announced that it will integrate AMBER alerts into the app. The alerts will appear with the name and photo of the missing child, along with information about where he or she was last seen. Users can click on the notification to learn more about the case.
Its partnership with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children means Waze will scan AMBER alerts every 10 minutes and display the notification in relevant geographical locations.
Unlike SMS-based AMBER alert notifications, Waze will only display the alerts if the vehicle is stopped for more than 10 seconds for safety purposes. The alert will disappear when the car starts moving again to show the full map.
With Goole’s plans to have Waze pre-installed in future Android devices, this new integration is a smart move for making its technology not only useful for drivers but for the communities they’re in.
