Google Now begins suggesting new calendar events based on your Gmail inbox

Google Now is making your calendar that little bit smarter and more proactive after the service began testing a feature that creates calendar entries based on information in your Gmail inbox — as spotted by Android Police.

So, for example, if you’ve been emailing friends about catching up one night after work this week, the new Google Now feature can pluck that information and Gmail and create a card that suggests adding the date to your calendar. The feature works in much the same way as Google Now’s ability to spot hotel and flight confirmations from your emails.

Android Police says the feature is currently live with a select pool of users. There is, of course, an option to switch it off if it feels too creepy or you’re the type who doesn’t need help on the organizational front.
