Evernote for iOS updated with better business card scanning and Presentation Mode

Evernote for iOS updated with better business card scanning and Presentation Mode

Evernote today released an update for its iOS app, focused on two key tools that are exclusive to Evernote Premium subscribers: Presentation Mode and business card scanning. Both features were introduced in December last year, but the improvements unveiled today make them significantly more useful.

After launching the in-app camera, you can swipe horizontally as before to use Evernote’s business card scanning service. Once a card has been successfully captured, you’ll see an option to integrate your LinkedIn account – if you haven’t done so already – and some new options in the subsequent screen.

For the first time, you can automatically save a copy of the business card to the Contacts database stored on your device. That’s particularly useful if you have Google Contacts or iCloud syncing enabled, as it means this information will be instantly available in any other address books apps that you use. Evernote says it’s also improved the way in which it handles names and phone numbers captured from business cards, which is a welcome update.

If Evernote can find the contact in question on LinkedIn, it will also give you the option to send them an invite on the business-focused social network. It’s an invaluable feature, and one that should remind you to connect after a particularly successful networking session. In short, it’s about digitizing contacts as quickly as possible so you’re not left with a pile of printed business cards, never to be touched or looked at again.

Another offering in Evernote’s Premium tier is Presentation Mode, which gives you the option to show notes in a beautiful, full-screen environment. In today’s update, you can now see and play back multimedia content, including audio, video and office docs. Additionally, links can be opened from inside notes without leaving Presentation Mode. So if you’re making a pitch with different types of content, you can now show them all with a consistent user experience.

Elsewhere, Evernote has added the ability to select multiple photos in the note image chooser, word wrap for adding text annotations to images and PDFs, and made it easier to discover notebooks in the appropriate section of the iOS app.
