Dram good: Distiller for iOS wants to be the ultimate whisky-drinker’s companion

While drinking a lot of whisky can leave you dazed a confused, a similar state may also be attained simply by shopping for the stuff. And this is where Distiller hopes to help, with an iOS app that serves as your companion for all things, well, ‘whisky’. Here’s how it works.

Distiller delivers personalized whisky/whiskey recommendations from around the world, while letting you search manually too.

The existing notes provide a little background on each malt or blend, while you can also throw your own ratings and opinions into the mix too.

Distiller claims to analyze tens-of-thousands of data points across flavors, price, reputation, and even how well suited it is to ‘gifting’.

Based on our initial tests, Distiller has been beautifully designed, though we found the navigation slightly laggy, with several attempts often required to action a click. This could partly be explained by the fact it’s a mobile Web wrapper rather than a fully native app. It would also be great if Distiller could integrate an e-commerce function, letting you shop for bottles directly from within the app.

Distiller is optimized for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, and is available for free globally now. Meanwhile, if tea’s more your ‘poison’, check out this instead.
