Meetup for spontaneous get-togethers, PeopleHunt, launches worldwide and adds new features

PeopleHunt, a new iPhone app which transforms the idea of scheduled meetups into spontaneous get-togethers based on “things you can show, tell or teach one another,” first launched at the New York Tech Meetup back in January. Now, nearly two months post-launch, the app has received a number of new features and is finally opening up beyond NYC to the rest of the world.

As we detailed on the eve of its debut, PeopleHunt’s core purpose is to help you surface knowledge and interesting experiences from people nearby. For example, you might be able to share tricks for getting the most out of a jailbroken iPhone, or even what it’s like to travel solo. Post what you’d like to share and interested people nearby (that are also in your network) will be able to introduce themselves. Likewise, you can also browse PeopleHunt for things you’d like to learn and discussions you’d like to initiate.

Launching internationally, PeopleHunt’s new functionality addresses three core areas: users will now be able to keep track of existing connections, ping missed connections and more easily share experiences.

According to PeopleHunt CEO Adrian Avendano, he’s “seen a huge desire for people to get back in touch with their connections, so now you can see your connections, and send messages to keep in touch.” In the event of missed connections, you’ll now be able to see who attempted to connect with you and get back in touch.

In case you’re not sure what you’d like to share (writer’s block), Avendano details that it’s now easier to search existing topics. If you find a topic you can also share, you can add yourself to it.

With this update, our opinion of the app has yet to change: PeopleHunt is undoubtedly a highly interesting experiment and it already shows quite a bit of potential. Try it for yourself via the link below.
