The overall winner of The Next Web’s 2012 conference is…[drum roll]…Shelby.tv.
Shelby.tv, is a social video startup and the only firm representing NYC at #TNW2012. Since the startup launched, we’ve watched it go on to build a gorgeous social video experience, we attended its first hackathon and it launched a new private beta release of the next generation of social video at our conference yesterday. The battle for the future of social video continues, and as was clear at this year’s TNW conference, Shelby.tv is at the top of our list.

Best mobile app: Between
The winner in the best mobile app category was Between, the intimate app for couples that has seen 700,000 downloads since its launch last November. Earlier today, we caught up with Between co-founder Edward Lee earlier today, a man who’s visiting The Next Web Conference from South Korea.
Best Web app: Nuji
In the best Web app category, Nuji came top of the TNW bill. Nuji bills itself as ‘your social wishlist’. While you browse online stores, you can bookmark the things that you like and come back to them later, or flag them for your (generous) friends to take note.
Earlier today, Nuji announced a slew of new partnerships to offer even more to loyal online shoppers.
Best B2B, and Public Choice award: Babelverse
We’re in the Netherlands and we’re speaking Dutch, but naturally we’re also speaking English…and thanks to real-time voice translation startup Babelverse, we were translating the conference live in both Spanish and Portuguese. And Babelverse walks away with our best B2B gong this year.
Yesterday, Babelverse opened up its platform in public beta, allowing human interpreters to monetize their language skills while providing individuals with an affordable on-demand interpretation.
In addition to the best B2B category, Babelverse also won the Public’s Choice award, where the audience was asked to tweet their favorite startup.

Best B2C: Snowciety
Yesterday, Snowciety launched as a sort of Path-meets-Google-Latitude for skiers. It brings a combination of social networking and location tracking to the ski slopes of the world, and walks away with our top B2C prize.
We caught up with co-founder Ronald Treur earlier today, and here’s what he had to say:
Most remarkable presentation: Frommees
Frommees was remarkable for a number of reasons, chiefly the startup was given all of 20 minutes to prepare for its pitch as a last-minute wildcard.
Holding aloft a single (unremarkable-looking) tiny plastic disc, the founder declared that ‘this IS The Next Web’.
How does it work? In short, you dish out these little, recyclable plastic discs with unique codes on them. The giver should already have attached content to that small circular disc, it could be photos, videos…any digital content. They’re physical keepsakes of a digital product, and we could be seeing a lot more of these guys in the future.
Most Innovative: BeamApp
BeamApp was another wildcard…and it is pretty awesome. It lets you share content seamlessly between devices, by ‘beaming’ content. You see a telephone number on a Web page or in a PDF on your desktop? BeamApp enables you to dial the number instantly from your mobile phone. And it also lets you play music and videos between devices, as well as a whole host of other content. It’s still in private beta, and we’ll be sure to bring you more on this startup shortly.
