Interactive dataviz measures Twitter buzz around this year’s Wimbledon tennis tournament

Regular readers will know that we have something of a fetish for data visualisations here at The Next Web, and Wimblewatch is certainly a timely example. With the Wimbledon finals fast approaching, this Web app, built using the Processing programming language, measures the Twitter buzz around players and topics related to this year’s tennis championship.

The interactive visualisation, built by Brandwatch, lets you choose two topics (be they players, newsworthy attendees like Prince William, or even weather conditions) and play them off against each other to see which one has received the most Twitter discussions over time.

Brandwatch explains that “Each dot represents one or more instances of a tweet about a topic on a certain day which we gave a certain score. The bigger the dot, the more tweets we found of that topic on that day with the same score.” The visualisation is explained in more detail in the graphic below (click it for a larger view) or you can dive right in to have a play here (you’ll need Java installed).
