WorldMate’s personal travel assistant lands on Android

WorldMate’s personal travel assistant lands on Android

If you spend a lot of time travelling, having an app on hand to keep track of your itineraries, flights and hotels can be invaluable.

WorldMate has offered its solution to this need on various mobile platforms for some time and claims an impressive 5 million active users worldwide. Filling a significant gap in its service, WorldMate launches on Android today.

The app offers travel alerts including flight reminders, flight status lookup via Flightstats.com, hotel search and booking via Hotels.com, currency information and weather.

Given Android’s excellent built-in support for notifications, the OS should be a good fit for WorldMate. If you’re a busy traveller or just tend to spend a bit too long in duty free leading to nearly missed flights (I’ll raise my hand to that offence) a handy reminder could be just what you need.

WorldMate has a high profile rival in the shape of TripIt. The two companies offer similar featuresets, operating to a freemium model with a mixture of free and paid-for services. It’s worth noting that what may be one of the most useful features for many users, flight notifications, is paid for on both WorldMate and Tripit.
