Report: Infighting at Apple leads to manager’s resignation, more ‘likely’ to follow

A report today suggests that infighting at Apple is beginning to drive employees to leave as Apple’s upper management, and two development teams, tries to figure out just what to do with iCloud.

Multiple sources claim that Apple is working on its own internal cloud infrastructure — known as ‘Project McQueen’ — that would reduce its dependence on Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud Platform and Microsoft Azure. Currently, Apple is spending in excess of $1 billion a year on the patchwork solution that currently houses your iCloud data.

The report highlights heightened tensions and continuous bickering as upper management wants Siri’s development team to adapt the personal assistant to utilize services that fall under the iCloud teams’s banner, like iTunes and iMessage. Doing so would force thousands of engineers in the iCloud division to cede control.

Put simply, should it be forced to cede control of large projects, the iCloud team is starting to feel a bit uneasy about job security at Apple. One engineering manager has reportedly resigned, and the report makes the claim that more are “likely” to follow.
