Apple is preparing to open 25 new retail stores within mainland China in a bid to gain a stronger foothold in the potentially lucrative and incredibly large consumer electronics market.

Revealed in an interview with Sina and reported by Reuters, Tim Cook said that 25 new stores would be up and running in China in the next two years – more than doubling its footprint from the 15 it currently holds.

Cook is in China discussing a range of topics, touring the Foxconn manufacturing facility and will also be meeting with Alibaba’s founder Jack Ma on Monday next week.
