LED lighting is not terribly new, but this little gem is, and if you bought one today, you could still be using it in 2035.
The new Pharox bulb is the first environmentally-friendly product that is reportedly able to give the same quality of light as your standard 60-watt bulb.
Shops are already banned from stocking up on 100-watt traditional bulbs in the EU, while 60-watt bulbs will start to be phased out in 2011 under an EU-enforced bid to reduce carbon dioxide emissions.
The downside, you might say, is the price tag, at $39.95 (£30/€30) a bulb… but we can only expect the price to go down as these bulbs reach mass market.
The manufactures, Dutch company Lemnis Lighting , say the LED bulb will pay for itself within three years.
Pharox 60 bulbs are currently available at mypharox.com and will be coming soon to Amazon.
