YouTube goes HD!

YouTube has quietly started rolling out HD for regular videos across the site. YouTube switched to widescreen viewing a week and a half ago, and now it seems most videos that were originally uploaded in HD should now be capable for HD viewing

Searching for videos marked “HD” shows a number of videos that are available at basic resolution but can be upgraded to watch in HD by clicking “watch in HD” in the bottom right corner of the video.

This is a great move by YouTube, widely known for it’s poor video quality yet now clearly directing itself towards a more commercial site with both professional videos and homemade. With MGM recently announcing plans to offer full-length movies, YouTube is slowly but surely steam rolling over the competition.
