Uber brings its larger-vehicle UberXL service to the UK

Uber brings its larger-vehicle UberXL service to the UK

For those moments when a regular car is just a little too small, Uber is launching an ‘UberXL’ option in the UK. These larger vehicles will be available to request later today, seating up to six people in London and eight passengers in Manchester.

Uber debuted its low-cost SUV service in San Francisco last May, and has slowly been pushing it to new locales such as New York over the last few months. The decision to offer UberXL across the pond is hardly surprising and should appeal to families or any large group trying to quickly get across the city.

UberXL vehicles include the Mercedes Viano and Ford Galaxy. Users will be charged £2.15 per mile, with a minimum spend of £5 in Manchester and £7 in London. Inevitably, this will give the taxi industry more competition to contend with and heighten the tension between Uber and disgruntled cabbies.
