In what amounts to a fairly minor upgrade, The Guardian has added the ability to Tweet links to current stories directly from the app. The app was launched to great acclaim in December 2009 and has been viewed as something of a ‘game-changer’ in the news apps market, not only for some slick design features but also because it was a paid download (£2.39/$2.99).
Early doubts regarding people’s appetite to purchase news apps were set to one side as the app rushed to the top of the iTunes charts in the UK and elsewhere in the world.
One of the minor gripes regarding the first release was that, whilst stories could be shared by email or through Facebook, the app did not include any Twitter integration.
This has now been rectified, although very little else has been altered in what has proved to be a winning app. However, The Guardian team is not sitting still. On launching version 1.02 of the app [iTunes link], users are asked if they would like to participate in further market research regarding the app and invited to provided contact details for email follow-up.
Elsewhere, The Guardian launched its own photography-based iPad app last month, based on its award-winning Eyewitness photo-journalism pull-outs.
This free app was also refreshed yesterday [iTunes link]. As well as fixes for a couple of minor bugs, the Eyewitness app has now also been equipped with Twitter integration.
