Twitter is discarding its #Music iOS app as a failed experiment after spending nearly a year trying to gain traction for it. The company revealed on Friday that it will remove the offering from the App Store today and deactivate the app for existing users on April 18.

The company did note, however that it will “continue to experiment with new ways to bring you great content based on the music activity we see every day on Twitter.” Last month, Twitter announced a new partnership with music industry firm 300 Entertainment to share up its music data and analytics. At the time, Twitter’s head of music revealed that music is “the largest topic of conversation” on the service.

The unfortunate demise of the #Music app doesn’t come as a surprise, as it fell off the App Store charts quite quickly last year. Twitter acquired the hype-worthy We Are Hunted music discovery service to build #Music, but users just haven’t flocked to Twitter’s music efforts.

While Twitter is killing off its standalone #Music app, the mini-app created for Spotify still works.
