Twitter poaches yet another Google exec, this time for its head of retail position

twitterIn the run up to its IPO, Twitter has turned to rival Google to fill a key sales position after it hired J.J. Hirschle, who led media and entertainment advertising at Google, who will become its head of retail.

Bloomberg reports that Hirschle is charged with selling its advertising services to retail companies. Given that revenue growth in Twitter’s most recent quarter of business was flat, although revenue per user increased, Twitter will be keen to strike deals with big brands and retailers.

Twitter has a history of hiring ex-Googlers — including former Asia-based exec Shailesh Rao, agency relations chief Matt Derella, current Twitter Asia MD Aliza Knox and ad sales exec Jennifer Prince.

A Twitter account that appears to belong to Hirschle verifies his move, but we’ve reached out to Twitter and Google for confirmation.
