Androids are getting more real than ever. Are you ready? My fascination with androids, and their increasingly fast development, never ends. Along with the fascination however, lies a degree of creepiness and uncertainty about what the future might hold for them, and more importantly, us.

It may just be because I’ve watched The Terminator a few too many times, but there’s no doubt that I do share an element of fear that one day these humanoids could in fact replace us – not entirely, but indeed dramatically.

I haven’t a particular fear of them harming us physically, as I’m sure they’ll have built in software protection of some sort (won’t they?)- its more the economic implications that concern me.  Yep, J O B’s.

It’s also the potential for where these androids are likely to see most uptake. I hesitate to say it, but the sex industry is the first to come to mind. Like with most new technology, if there’s any way it can be put to use by (more…)

Technologic Overkill is reportedly the first music video shot on an iPhone 3GS. The song by XFYA records the activities of a little blue robot and his efforts to become significant in an increasingly technological world.

Created by Steve Ellington of The Automatic Filmmaker, its rather good actually (considering its shot on a phone):

Soy Tu Aire (I’m Your Air) is a song by french Spanish band Labuat.

At a very a basic level is an interactive music video. On a much deeper level its a visual journey of a music video which reacts to your manipulation and lets the voice paint it onto the “air” of the screen with a brush that “listens” to the music.

Mesmerizing: Soy Tu Aire an Interactive Music Video that will leave you in dreamland.

The elements to play with are very simple, yet this is an incredibly engaging piece that keeps the viewer fixed for the entire song. The loading time is a minute or so, but trust me, it has its rewards.

Watch it here (keep an eye on the percentage at the bottom of the screen for loading time)

Created by Tomas Mankovsky, Sorry I’m Late is a stop motion animation created entirely from still images shot from a camera hung from the ceiling pointing straight at the floor. Nothing short of incredibly impressive if you ask me.

You can watch the making of too if you’re interested.

Dutch student Jorrit Spoelstra is a talented student at a Dutch art academy who has just started a new project titled ‘Blocter‘. Jorrit aims to find out who the people are behind popular blogs and he uses videos interviews as his tool.

In short video interviews Blocter will try to find out who these people are and why they keep blogging. The videos are interested and of high quality. Interesting to watch if you are a blogger yourself but also if you aren’t one and are wondering what it is like to be a high profile blogger yourself.

The first video is about Marjolijn Kamphuis who started Dutch Cowgirls, a blog written by female writers only, but intended for both male and female readers.

Check it out:

Created by Tribal DDB and Stink Digital, this interactive campaign promotes Philips’ latest television, the CINEMA 21:9. Tribal DDB, Amsterdam commissioned Stink Digital to create a movie that could “hold its own with Hollywood’s best”. Director Adam Berg delivered an idea for an epic ‘frozen moment’ cops and robbers shootout.

Really, its far too cool for its own good.

Official: Twitter will launch premium business tools by the end of this year.Twitter plans to introduce premium tools and services to help businesses serve their current and potential customers by the end of this year..

Business Products

Although there have been rumors and discussion about potential business products on the horizon, it was Twitter co-founder Biz Stone who officially confirmed the news at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in New York.

Stone said that Twitter’s plan focused on two core phases:

Phase one has and is being spent collecting intelligence on how people use the service.

The second phase will see Twitter launching tools and services on top of free micro-blogging, these premium tools will be aimed at companies that wish to use Twitter to stay in touch with customers.

Regarding the type of products, although there was no definite answer, Stone says it will be “simple stuff” such as lightweight analytics.

“If there is a way we can go above and beyond, and they (companies) can improve bottom line by offering services we can offer for a fee, (we) will do that.”

He made it clear that a Twitter advertising revenue model was not on the cards and that at no point would they charge users for using the current product offering.

Growth

Another fascinating nugget from the interview was in regard to Twitter’s growth rate. Stone pointed out that the Twitter team are fully aware that their current growth rate is unsustainable. According to their statistics, if they continue to grow at this rate – they will run out of people on planet Earth by the end of the year.

Which begs the question, are we really alone? :)
