One of the great things about Posterous is that it can be used as a really easy group blogging platform. Now Posterous has made an improvement that makes it possible for groups to manage their entire social media output from one email address.
Group blogs, in which more that one person can post to the same blog, can now have a ‘Group Profile’ instead of a personal one. This means that your group blog posts can now also get sent to your group Facebook or Twitter accounts, or any of the other services supported by Posterous.
Posterous is clearly aiming squarely at businesses with this new feature. It’s a subtle change, but one that makes managing a business’ social media presence a whole lot simpler. (more…)
Services like TwitPic, twt.fm, yfrog have gained popularity fast and with good reason. They’re all quick and easy ways to share your media on Twitter.
What I don’t quite understand is why so many people, who really should know better, use them. These media sharing tools provide free hosting of your media, which is great, but with blogging platforms such as Wordpress that let you store and share all your photos, music etc. on your own site, and let you benefit from all the things controlling your own site lets you benefit from…why use them?
One reason might be that actually setting up a Wordpress.org (or other self-hosted publishing platform) blog isn’t all that straight forward for complete newbies. But then there’s obviously Wordpress.com, and plenty of other hosted blogging platforms, that will have you up and running in no time. If you ever want to move off any of them, they should all provide a quick and easy way to export your all your posts and files.
The other reason might be that actually posting (more…)
I’ve got to be honest, I hated writing the title to this post, it reminded me (and still does) of the many ghastly SEO blogs, sites and ebooks, each with their own disastrous approaches to supposedly helping you get to the top of Google. If you know me and/or read this site, you should hopefully by now realise I’m not a bullshitter and what I’m about to explain genuinely does work (sigh…again, this sounds like an informercial but I promise, I’m not selling a thing).
Anyway, here we go…
My personal site and blog has become a very important aspect of my online life. If I’m completely honest, it started with Matt Mullenweg (Wordpress founder) when he claimed to be the most “important” Matt in the world because he ranked number one in Google for the search term “Matt”. That’s all changed now since “Where the hell is Matt” popped onto the scene, but nevertheless the ego inside me thought, “I must be the most important Zee in the world, (more…)
One of our favorite startups of 2009, Posterous, has received a major update…Themes!
Up until now, the site has offered just the one clean Posterous theme, and whilst it did the job, for the majority of internet users used to customizing profiles and blogs, it just didn’t cut it. Themes have always been high on the list of priorities for the San Francisco based YCombinator startup, but it’s been a long time coming. Today, that changes, and Tumblr should be knocking their knees because this takes one giant bite out of their USP.
The details:
- Users can select from 5 built-in themes, including (more…)
When I first heard a mention of Twitter (ironically on Leo Laporte’s TWIT podcast), the concept was sold as a simple way to quickly announce what you were doing. I brushed it off and thought “nothing could be more boring…”
Of course, being a techie, I still joined and as Twitter has grown and a number of other uses for the site have became apparent and wonderfully so. The down side is that it’s become awkward to post a normal “what I’m doing” update, amongst the news breaking and link sharing. People very rarely now post an actual tweet saying what they’re actually doing or thinking.
When I was younger, I’d always wanted to keep a diary of sorts, and tried, but unfortunately after a few weeks, it sat there and saw dust. So when I started to get into Twitter, I thought this might be the perfect way to keep that diary. Unfortunately, Twitter now really isn’t an update steam any any more, its clogged up with @replies, retweets and links, and what’s more its not even searchable past a couple of weeks. This inspired me. I wanted to a page on the web with (more…)
Posterous, the blogging platform/lifestreaming service that really can be used for almost anything, has released an iPhone app.
The app, called PicPosterous, is focused primarily on media rather than blogging as such, but as you’ll soon discover, they’ve released some very clever features.
As Posterous describes, “PicPosterous is an entirely different way of posting photos and video to your Posterous site. Instead of posting photos from an event once, at the end, PicPosterous PicPosterous “>is designed to let you post photos live, as you take them. PicPosterous can replace the built in Camera app on your iPhone, and publish your photos and video online live.”
Lifestreaming done right.
So say you’re at a wedding party. With (more…)

Posterous has been rolling out new features like crazy lately. I admit I have only used it casually but have become more and more interested in using it more given the buzz and positive reviews I have been hearing. The recent nod that Mashable gave it in their head to head battle against Tumbr as well as Steve Rubel’s declaration that he was using it exclusively as a replacement for his blog have got me really interested in implementing it in my social media workflow.
The latest cool feature they are rolling out is the ability to automatically embed the geolocation of your photographs posted to Posterous using Google Maps. Starting today, Posterous now offers a sleek little embedded Google Map below any photo you upload. Embedding the geocoordinates using Google Maps can be accomplished one of two ways: (more…)
It’s not often we write about a company twice in two days (unless you’re Twitter of course… :O) but we felt this news warranted it.
One of the most interesting features of Posterous is its ability to autopost to various sites. Post an image to your blog, and it’ll get sent through to Flickr. A blog post can get sent through to your wordpress blog. A status update can get posted through to Twitter and Facebook – you get the idea.
Well today Posterous quietly pushed an update letting users post to many more of your favorite web apps, specifically:
Posterous, the email powered blogging platform has announced a rather interesting acquisition. The YCombinator startup has acquired fellow YC company Slinkset, the create your own social news site (Digg, Reddit etc..) tool.
Slinkset will remain functioning online, meanwhile Posterous plan on incorporate Slinkset into the site’s existing experience. Slinkset founder Brett Gibson will also join the fellow YC startup as part of the acquisition.
Posterous has gone from strength to strength over recent months, integrating a number of unique features seeing it slowly but surely become a incredibly powerful publishing platform it is own right. (more…)
