Earlier today, the U.S. company announced a dozen or so new job openings for its recently established Dublin and London offices.

Twitter lists the open positions on its international jobs site, indicating that it’s primarily looking for account executives and sales managers for its offices in Dublin.

Lots of new jobs posted for Twitter offices in London and Dublin: twitter.com/jobs/internati… #jointheflock

— Twitter UK (@TwitterUK) April 3, 2012

Markets that Twitter is particularly interested in supporting commercially appear to be the UK and Ireland, The Netherlands and Spain.

For its London offices, the social networking company is also hiring a handful of software engineers, and it’s also – still – looking for someone to fill the full-time role of Public Policy Manager in Dublin.

As pointed out by Irish Times, we know who’s running Twitter’s European headquarters in Dublin (former Googler Stephen McIntyre, see his tweet below) but, oddly, not where the office is actually located.

Thunderbirds are go! We just posted 12 new roles in Dublin. Apply at twitter.com/jobs/internati… and help us build Twitter’s newest office!

— Stephen McIntyre (@stephenpmc) April 3, 2012

What we do know if that the team is having some champagne there right now (see picture embedded at the bottom of this post).

Today, the Google Finance team announced that it would be adding the same real-time technology for the London Stock Exchange (LON), Deutsche Börse (FRA), and Borsa Italiana (BIT), giving us a real sense of how companies are doing in Europe.

Here’s what the team had to say about the addition of stock information for Europe:

We first introduced real time quotes to our site with the launch of free real time NYSE and NASDAQ quotes in 2008. Since then, we’ve bolstered our last sale coverage with real time data from stock exchanges in China, India, and now, UK, Germany, and Italy. These partnerships mark a big step forward in our mission to provide our users with the best information we can find.

By providing real-time stock information along with news, the Google Finance product is one of the most complete free financial services on the web. The easy to use sliders make it simple to create graphs that help you make a decision on whether to invest in a company or not.

Needless to say, Google Finance wasn’t appealing to users in Europe, leaving a whole chunk of traffic and usage on the table. These new additions should help solve that problem. What was the delay? It takes partnerships to provide this information, and it took Google four years to get these new markets on board.

Owls. Not live ones, but the sounds that they make.

One set of developers at the London Music Hack Day decided that it was time to bring the beautiful, yet sometimes alarming, sounds that Owls make, tune them a bit, and serve them up to you for beautiful music making.

Thanks to Hannah Donovan and Roel van der Ven, OwlOctave teaches you a thing or two about Owls while you’re making your music, telling you the name of each as well as where they reside.

So go make beautiful music, who gives a damn how silly you might look sitting at your computer in front of a bunch of Owls making noises. Get it, who? Nevermind.

King of Limbs was released on February 19th, 2010 in 2 10-inch vinyl records, a CD, several large pieces of artwork, 625 small pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degredeable plastic to hold it all together. The complete package costs $48 with an MP3 download and $53 with the WAV download. Discs and vinyls ship May 9th, 2011.

On Monday, Radiohead released its first newspaper titled “The Universal Sigh” in 63 worldwide locations to accompany its latest album. The back of the newspaper features a QR code, which links to the official website showing photos of happy people who braved the potential paper cuts to pick up a copy. You can view images of it here At Ease Web, and see the screen shots below.

“In the western world the number of kids going into science is declining, funding is going down and the barrier to entry is proving difficult. We need to make science fun, we need to let kids know it’s not that hard.”

-Christopher Kevin Howard, Libboo Co-Founder

Christopher Kevin Howard is a researcher at MIT, a part-time physics instructor at Harvard and the Co-Founder of a company called Libboo, a free community of inquisitive readers and writers around the world, created for the purpose of publishing online literature. Howard and Richard Wiseman, a noted science writer created Libboo to explore exciting ways to make writing fun online.

In 2009, after Howard received his PhD in Computational Science in 2009, he became disillusioned with academia. While presenting on how the Internet can be used to get kids into science at the Nobel Academy in Stockholm, Howard came up with the idea of getting young students to crowdsource their own science textbooks. Shortly thereafter, he was offered a research position at MIT to spearhead this initiative. First, Howard is testing the experiment in online literature with a crowdsourced fiction novel. Last December, “The Great Libboo Experiment” began.

Richard Wiseman wrote the first chapter, an eery murder mystery set in East London. From there the community of writers can either continue the story from its existing branch, or create a new story line, resulting in a tree-like shape with multiple branches. Every part of the story is written by a team of editors and the writing phase will last around 2 months.

The science behind the project is impressive and its findings will hopefully provide Howard with the information he needs to lead crowdsourcing textbook projects in the future. Howard’s team measures the relationship of how people read through the tree. When someone creates a new part from a previous part, there’s a relationship which is created and that relationship has an associated strength to it; as people read from point a to b to c, the relationships are then strengthened. In the end, the thickest branch is the most successful story.

While there are no monetary incentives, writers who partake in the experiment can say they’ve written a book with Richard Wiseman and they’ve produced something which will help others. All proceeds from the finished book will go to the National Literacy Trust.

“As Flavorpill turns 10 years old, we’re evolving our offering to become smarter and more personalized. We’ve come a long way from our beginnings as a text-only email list in NYC, and we now publish content from editors in eight cities around the country and in London, as well as event listings entered by hundreds of the top venues in all our markets — feeding both our Flavorwire blog and our Flavorpill cultural guide. The new, personalized mailer now offers every one of our more than one million monthly readers a fully customized publication, and represents a significant step in Flavorpill’s evolution towards a dynamic, multi-channel arts and culture guide” — Mark Mangan, Flavorpill, Co -Founder

Each new newsletter is like a custom email for subscribers. Using technology developed by Sailthru, a startup powering email for the likes of the HuffPo and AOL, the new mailer not only lets users set their personalization preferences but also “gets smarter” the more it’s used, learning from users’ click through habits. In effect, future newsletters will become more personalized to users’ preferences.

“Flavorpill is reshaping the face of email. They are pushing their communication and our technology far beyond that of anything we’ve seen to date. They stand to revolutionize the ways brands and users communicate, creating a true one-to-one conversation.”– Neil Capel, Sailthru, CEO

The new Flavorpill mailer will feature two main editorial picks – one feature article and one event listing. It will also include multiple features and event picks recommended for every reader individually; the ability to update personal settings, including events from any of the Flavorpill cities, which includes NYC, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Las Vegas, London, with Dallas and Seattle coming soon; categories and subcategories of interest, and frequency down to the day. In short, the newsletter is a smarter, more personalized way to make sure you’re never bored again.

Assange, speaking with the Sunday Times, said the money would be used to defend himself against allegations of sexual assault, a legal case that currently means the Wikileaks founder is living under strict bail conditions following his release from jail ten days ago.

“I don’t want to write this book, but I have to,” Assange said. “I have already spent 200,000 pounds for legal costs and I need to defend myself and to keep WikiLeaks afloat.”

As a result of the deal, Assange will receive $800,000 fro Alfred A. Knopf, his American publisher as well as £325,000 from Canongate, his UK publisher. Money from other markets could increase the total to £1.1 million.

With many financial institutions freezing any payments to the whistleblowing website, Assange is having to find alternative avenues to finance Wikileaks. By writing his autobiography, Assange will receive the money directly, financing his legal costs and also giving him funds to help to keep Wikileaks online.

Assange will be back in court for the full hearing on the Swedish extradition request starting February 7.

He was first denied bail after surrendering to authorities in London early last Tuesday morning.

This morning WikiLeaks‘ Julian Assange went to his court hearing in London to fight possible extradition to Sweden on sex-crimes charges. Midday, Assange was granted bail to cheers from both inside and outside the courtroom. No word yet on whether he’ll pay the £200,000 bail with Paypal, Mastercard or Visa.

Assange’s high-profile lawyer, Geoffrey Robertson, argued against the allegations of rape, “We doubt whether this actual category of rape would be rape under English law.” Robertson assured the judge that “the mere absence of a fixed residence does not give rise to a danger of absconding” and offered a permanent address in the U.K. where 39-year-old Assange would stay. Bail conditions also include surrendering his passport, a curfew from 10am-2pm and 10pm-2am, an electronic tag and the duty to report to the police everyday at 6pm.

According to the latest updates from the Guardian’s live blog of the hearing, Swedish prosecutors aren’t letting him go so easily. They are now launching an appeal against granting Assange bail. They will have 48 hours to submit an appeal and Assange will not be freed until that process is over.

Assange has since left the courthouse and is suspected to be on his way back to Wandsworth prison. He will remain there until the appeal is submitted.

Vaughn Smith, the founder of the FrontLine club in west London, is one of the many people offering security. If Assange is released, he will stay at Smith’s estate, Ellingham Hall in Suffolk, and report to a nearby police station at Bungay every evening. Here, Assange will await his next hearing on January 11th, 2010.

Jemima Khan – who had earlier offered a surety on behalf of Assange – said: “It’s great news. I can hear them all cheering outside.”

Novelist Tariq Ali said: “I’m very pleased that he is out. I think the extradition charges should now be dealt with in the same way. His barrister made the same point, that this is not rape under English law and there is absolutely no reason for extradition. We are delighted he is out, and he should never have been locked up in the first place.”

Author Yvonne Ridley said: “It is a victory for common sense. If he had been refused bail, it would have meant the court had become a political arena.”
