Last week, Google Apps users were handed a new feature: Google Analytics for Google Apps. The idea behind the introduction, was to allow organisations to track internal usage of the various Google Apps; Sites, Docs and Gmail.

Gmail gets Google Analytics

Today, Analytics is being rolled out amongst standard GMail users too. According to Digital Inspiration, the feature will provide some basic information about email recipients with no support for ‘read receipts’ (which secretly I would like).

To try out the feature, enable it via GMail labs then visit your General tab an type in your Google Analytics Web ID which reads something like UA-1234567-y. To get the id, you’ll need to create a separate profile in Google Analytics.

The extent of the tracking is uncertain and will only become apparent after a few hours of testing. I’m not sure whether the feature tracks emails to Yahoo or Hotmail addresses for example. It’s an interesting new update though it must be said, let’s see what people’s reactions are like over the next few days.

note: some Gmail accounts have apparently yet to see the option enabled. Keep checking!

Full Featured Google Analytics App Released for the iPhoneAnalytics App“, a full featured Google Analytics app has just been released for the iPhone and it’s a long time due.

The application is both well designed and stocked with the features we would all expect from the Google Analytics web interface. With support for multiple accounts, 29 stat reports available, the ability to create your own custom stat reports, as well as cleanly designed graph analysis – you shouldn’t be hard pressed to find the information you’re looking for. A welcome addition to the iPhone app is a “today” view which is clearly where you’re likely to be pointing your index finger all too often.

There have been previous attempts at providing Google Analytics data via your iPhone before. MyAnalytics (itunes link) and Analytics Pro (itunes link) have both have taken stabs at the task, however it is Analytics App which takes the crown and glory  (for now at least) with ease of use, design and features.

You can visit the site here or download the app here (itunes link)

Clicky brings stats to the iPhone, it looks awesome

Clicky brings stats to the iPhone, it looks awesomeBeing a stats-addict sucks. You experience highs and lows the whole day, which causes unpredictable mood swings. Though when you’re running a project that actually does well, it doesn’t hurt to check it every once in a while. For me, checking The Next Web stats sort of works like a happy-pill, I guess. So I was glad to hear that my favorite statistics service Clicky (review here) will officially launch an iPhone version of its stats dashboard on Monday. And guess what? It’s already available on m.getclicky.com!

When opening the page in your iPhone, you’ll see an overview of all your web sites. Click on one, and you can choose whether you want to check the stats of “Today”, “Yesterday”, “Last Week”, and some other date options. Then a screen with a summary appears and the options to see the “Visitor tally”, the “Action tally”, and the “Recent visitors” (There are actually a ton more options, just scroll down). To give you an idea of the eye-candy, you can see our recent visitors at the right.

Although Google Analytics is the standard, I use Clicky for my sites. I believe smaller companies are more likely to innovate and the launch of the iPhone app proves that (No Google Analytics app so far).

Disclosure: we’re involved in a affiliate program with Clicky. Which we wouldn’t be if the service wasn’t that great. Oh an by the way, there are no affiliate links in this post.

UPDATE: Clicky has now ‘officially’ launched the App.
