Man “earns” £11,000 through Twitter by betting against his boss

The tweet above seemed like a simple enough tweet to send out and only a bit of fun. Little did the person who sent it know that he would come back from his holidays to find 23,000 retweets and have won over £11,000 in a bet when he expected a tenner at best. Some people started claiming it was a scam but you can see from the blog post that the guy was clearly shocked by the reaction and unsurprisingly the boss seems to be backing out of the original bet.

It’s one of those tweets that people just RT without even looking at the content but it is still staggering to see it get well over 20,000 retweets in a few days. The one downside of this is that a bunch of brands and companies will see this as a great new marketing tool to get exposure and try this for their own business.

One important question to ask is does this actually help ThePoultrykeeper.com website in the long run or will people like me never go back there again? You could say in some ways that the original question is still the same: is Twitter a big waste of time like the man’s boss claims or do these 23,000 tweets actually help?

As it turns out, this is all a hoax! Check out our followup piece here where The Next Web readers chimed in with their thoughts.
