Best Buy just proved why it’s important to triple check your placeholder text

Best Buy just proved why it’s important to triple check your placeholder text

Designers everywhere are familiar with lorem ipsum – or placeholder text for when you’re creating a design mockup.

Lorem ipsum is popular because they’re words that don’t exist in the English language (they’re Latin-ish), thus making it easy for designers to spot the odd words out and swap them for real text when the design is ready to go live. Best Buy didn’t get this hint however, and has chosen to go with a word that does exist in our dictionary: Dummy.

And thus, the Apple Dummy was born.

In preparation for the iPhone SE’s launch, Best Buy was probably creating individual pages for each iPhone’s color and memory configuration. But it managed to miss swapping out “Dummy” for the 64GB Rose Gold iPhone SE. Perhaps it’s trying to silently throw shade at someone who would buy such a device.

At press time, you can find this typo on Best Buy’s iPhone SE shopping results, but clicking the link leads to a 404. Next time, just stick to the Lorems, Best Buy – don’t fix what ain’t broke.
