This Raspberry Pi-enabled Game Boy is a retro gamer’s dream

Oh, the original Gameboy. How I long for that green-screened brick of a handheld to play another round of ‘Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening.’ Retro gaming can be a hard thing to do authentically, though, especially when you’re used to the comforts of modern graphics.

YouTuber wermy apparently felt the same way, and decided to mod an original Gameboy from the chipset up with a $5 Raspberry Pi Zero to play all the games from his youth. New buttons were drilled, a rechargeable battery back was inserted, and he even tricked out an old Game Boy cartridge with a microSD reader to house games.

Of course, it doesn’t stop there: thanks to the provided emulator, the handheld can play games from the Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis and other arcade classics with the benefit of a full-color screen.
