Here’s what 135 years of global warming looks like in 30 seconds

NASA revealed this week that 2015 was the warmest year since record-keeping began in 1880.

The 30-second animation shows the world’s global warming trend for the past 135 years, illustrating the changing temperatures in orange, which increases and intensifies as the years go by.

NASA’s report shows that since the late 19th century, carbon dioxide and other emissions have caused the temperature to rise nearly 2 degrees Fahrenheit.

While 15 of the hottest years on record have occurred since 2001, 2015 is significant because it’s shown the biggest year-on-year increase in temperature since 1998. NASA says this is only the second time that an increase of this much has been recorded since 1880.
