Boeing patents a force field system to protect military vehicles from explosions

Boeing is known the world over as an aircraft manufacturer, but it also designs and develops sophisticated defense, satellite and weapon systems. The company’s latest patent seems to be inspired by sci-fi movies: a force to shield vehicles and buildings from explosions.

This video from PatentYogi shows how Boeing’s system detects shockwaves emanating from nearby bomb explosions and sends out laser pulses to ionize air and absorb the blow.

While originally developed for use on military vehicles in war zones, the innovation may also aid in protecting ships and aircraft.
