You’ve probably heard by now that Chelyabinsk, Russia was hit by a meteor strike on Friday.

Details of the incident are still emerging, but local officials are reporting that over 400 people were hurt by the incident. First and foremost, our thoughts are with the injured.

If you’re interested in seeing what happened, the common Russian practice of running a dashboard camera means it was recorded from a multitude of angles.

There has been a marked increase in meteorite activity over the past twelve months. Hours before the Russian incident there was a notable over Europe/Scandinavia.

The line traced by the green visibility region is also the impact danger zone, the strip of the planet at greatest risk in the very unlikely event of an impact by the asteroid or accompanying fragments.

Dashboard cameras are on the rise in the West as well. They’re quite useful should you have an accident, but also for recording scenic routes or random events like meteor strikes ;)
