Meet the record-setting bug with a 7-inch wingspan

I’m not really a bug guy, but this is one of those that would freak out just about anyone, whether they are or not. According to the article in The Sun, a New Zealand park ranger ran across this gigantic Weta Bug while out exploring at night, in hopes of finding the creature as many had believed it to be extinct.

Well surprise, not only is it not extinct, but this specimen boasts a wingspan of over 7 inches and weighs “as much as three mice”, making it officially the largest Weta Bug on record.

The weta classification is actually somewhat broad, applying to about 70 species of insects that are endemic to New Zealand. Personally, I have a better name for it.

Nope.
