Hard Drive Platter Clock Tells Time, Makes Noise

Hard Drive Platter Clock Tells Time, Makes Noise

Some enterprising Russian techies have created an amazing fantazein-like clock out of a bunch of LEDs and an old hard drive.

The clock, which consists of a hard drive platter with numbers etched into it, is spun by a custom circuit which also strobes the LEDs in time with the rotating platter to create the illusion of numerals. Unfortunately, the setup is a bit too noisy to be practical, but it could have a future as an art installation.

What’s the coolest thing you’ve ever seen done with a piece of disused tech?
