True, because everyone knows a mouse is a terrible pointing device. RTS is so much better when you can scroll around with a hat. Computer's should really have their mouse replaced with an xbox 360 controller.

No you are, even if PC controls suck for some games pick up a controller for $20 and you're good to go.
And for some games I've found mouse and keyboard easier and more responsive then a controller.
You try and play Halo Wars and then any RTS on the PC and tell me which controls are more suitable?

Likely looking at replacing the PCs with game consoles when the next generation comes out. Just the same, the post is an accurate comparison today…

computers are superior to consoles in every way.
    think of it like this:
consoles are so weak, that they are built specifically to meet the requirements of games made today.
however, games are made to fit computers.
you have to buy a new console every other year to keep up with new games.
you normally buy a new computer every couple of years anyway, and if you dont, you can just buy a new graphics card/processor instead.

and mouse+keyboard is a better gaming experience than controller.
fpses are more realistic with a mouse.
you cant even rts well on a controller.
the only places where controllers are superior is with adventure games, imo.
and you can just plug an xbox remote into your computer, and it works. interesting?

You know that modern consoles are just computers packaged differently right? I mean, even the original Xbox, if used correctly, was the cheapest PC on the market.

Pc gamers would annihilate xbox gamers just because of the mouse alone. It moves your crosshair WAY faster and more accurate then the slow thumbstick ever could. Ever try turning around in an FPS on an xbox? It takes forever! If you use a mouse you can whip around 180 degrees like nothing. Even if you speed the settings up on the controller you got no control anymore. Moving your thumb a hair-width distance and your crosshair moves an inch!

It's a shame that so many developers stopped supporting the PC, considering how the keyboard and mouse is superior in every way and you aren't locked into a device that has to be replaced every three years with ANOTHER locked-down device. But alas, people who don't even know enough to buy a computer that isn't crap make up about 95% of the computer users of the world. :(

  17. Caveman said on March 15, 2010:

Although I have a few consoles, PC gaming is far superior.

I like what you said about being locked in to a device for gaming, kind of like being locked in to Apple hardware. Whether the hardware is good or not, you are still locked in.

And the best of all. With a PC you easly can come together with friends, sit down on the sofa in your living room a play some games together. Your absolutely right the PC is superior to consoles in every way ;)

I agree. I just got a PS3 and would kill for in game mouse support. I'm not very precise when it comes to aiming with the stick. With a mouse I can pick off a guy 100 yards out with a pistol. Well not really but you know what I mean. Way more precise.

@ mike “you have to buy a new console every other year to keep up with new games.”

Are you retarded? Its actually exactly the opposite! People have PS3's and 360's for years! How many consoles have you bought recently? Meanwhile if I game on a PC, I have to replace the damn video card every year to keep up, and the mobo every two years to keep. I have to babysit and troubleshoot an OS. Consoles JUST WORK. I agree, gaming on a high end rig with 1200 bucks worth of video cards will be better – OF COURSE. But consoles just work, support high def, and stay the same for 5 years or more. The sales echo this – Consoles WAY outsale PC gaming FOR A REASON.

My Ps3 is plugged into a 50″ plasma with 7.1 surround sound – MUCH better experience.

You can plug your comp in to a tv. I have my custom built comp set up w/ a 42″ surround sound – so that can be taken off the list as to which is better

As a seasoned gamer, I vouch for mouse+keyboard, hands down. I agree that a PC can outperform a console, and so it can do with my budget! Seriously, I pretty much gave up gaming because I can't and won't spend a mint endlessly upgrading just to keep up. Bought me a macbook pro last fall because it's simply the best for working and not dicking around ;-)

  22. Comanglia said on March 28, 2010:

Keyboard + Mouse rulez also next to all games released are on PC meaning you can play a game that is meant for ps3(but not 360) or a game that is meant for 360(but not ps3) on a pc. Plus the fact you can mod games on PC alot easier than on crappy consoles. Also the fact that a computer can have better graphics and use a controller if needed. Not to mention you don't have to pay extra for online play like for the 360. In other words consoles suck balls at everything except mobility oh wait their are laptops I guess consoles just suck.

  23. Piisuke said on March 28, 2010:

    Wrong, Mike.

Games are made to accomodate the power of the consoles, not the other way around. Heck, consoles are often made with room for experimentation and expansion. As you can see, usually the first few titles aren't that great, though the bigger titles tend to come halfway through the life expectancy and it grows until a new console comes on the market.

Oh yeah, you need to buy a new console every other year to keep up with games? In case you'd forgotten, the PS2 lasted TEN years. That is TEN (10) years. Computer hardware is outdated the same year it is released, so please don't even try to make that an excuse.

Mouse and Keyboard are a better experience for certain genres, though even that depends on the player him(her)self.

As for your last comment, you can also bring a controller to your friends house, plug it in his/her Xbox/PS3/Wii and play games together, unlike a PC where you need to bring your entire kit with you.

Seriously, naivety is common in people, but you sure do show your colours.

I could not agree more Piisuke. There's too many ignorant, week smoking 15 year old highschool kid gamers in this forum that don't know anything about business or technology; instead just enough to start a religious battle about consoles versus gaming computers.

I commented above and I'll say it again – although computers are the most powerful way to game (if you have the $$) I got sick of buying a new video card every year to keep up (and decent video cards are as much as a PS3!) just to trash my office with inferior computer speakers and a tiny monitor. I'll chose gaming on my 50″ plasma with 7.1 surround sound, with wireless controllers on my easy chair. On a console that I dont have to keep upgrading, keep patched, etc.

I did just sign up for the steam beta on my mac though – I am wondering if Macs might bridge the difference between consoles and PCs since they are much lower maintenance than PCs and dont upgrade as often (which could be a pro and a con). I have a 27″ i7 iMac with 16gb of ram that might be a good gaming machine, even though the 4850 video is a generation old already.

Why does Microsoft still not allow keyboards for gaming by now? PS3 supports it, this would be another blow to PC gaming.

for my 2 cents on FPS games, mouse and keyboard all the way… only good split screen FPS game I've played with company was golden eye 64.

and RTS only work with a system link or online.

So the PC will survive with RTS and FPS, with competitive players. Unless these consoles start adding multi-monitor support for connecting maybe up to 3 monitors, use independently or even a 3-wide screen…which BTW would be amazing to play any next generation FPS.

And mouse and keyboard support for INGAME.

PC gaming will be in trouble and it seems like Microsoft is trying to protect that. Sony must be getting under there skin. The big M better roll up their sleeves and come up with something.

Anyone remember a system called “the phantom” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Phantom_%28gam…

Computer will always be around to play games on. RTS, MMO, Shooters, adventure etc games work the best because of the modding, hacking, and custom builder communities.

If you play a PC game you get a much better experience. You can also multiple things with the PC besides playing games lol.

    Also macs suck.
