This would be even funnier if it wasn't true.

I really hope by “vote with your wallet”, you're not encouraging piracy. A minor annoyance at the front of a disc doesn't merit a response involving stealing.

This is why we have “Menu” and “FFWD” buttons on DVD remotes, or the ability to watch things on Netflix.

No, they’re saying waht you’re saying, Netflix, Hulu, redbox, cheaper forms of payment and the ability to skip the 10+ mins of BS in the beginning. It is bull that I have to see all these trailers and disclaimers. At least disney has “fastplay” for my kids. if I want to see trailers, i’ll check them out in special features. I bought a movie to see that damn movie. Same thing with the movie theater, they’re not losing money in the theaters because I’m pirating movies. I’m tried of paying $10 bucks a person for a ticket to a movie theater that sucks and has kids answering phones during my movie. That and half the movies suck, I can wait til they come out on netflix or redbox and watch them on my home tv with surround sound, for a much more pleasant experience for less.

Minor annoyance? Get your head out of the sand Dan! I guess for a simple mind it would be a minor annoyance.

You think its O.K. now just wait, with discs able to contain more and more info. I would not put it past them to start adding intermissions to minimally annoy you in the middle of the movie.

The annoyance to me is the fact that i am forced to watch all the crap. not that it is part of the DVD!

      pirating isnt stealing, its pirating…

That is why you stay anonymous, because you are not bright enough to understand the definition!

One who robs at sea or plunders the land from the sea without commission from a sovereign nation.

One who preys on others; a plunderer.

One who makes use of or reproduces the work of another without authorization.

One that operates an unlicensed, illegal television or radio station.

        To take (something) by piracy.

To make use of or reproduce (another’s work) without authorization.

Taken right out of the dictionary!

          Piracy is NOT stealing!
All it is, is SHARING.. Can’t you realise you are getting ripped off?
In the Bible, there is no such thing as stealing an idea. It is only possible to steal another person’s material possessions.

”One who robs at sea or plunders the land from the sea without commission from a sovereign nation”
-That is true but pirates on the internet using thepiratebay etc are not stealing! Theft removes the original but piracy makes a copy!

While I agree with you on the piracy statement, I don't think you realize how many disks 'lock' the navigational controls during the ads they place at the beginning of the disk. It can be insanely frustrating, especially when watching an older disk that runs ads for something long gone.

I own over 100 DVDs, the “Menu” button takes me directly to the menu on about fifteen of those DVDs. The rest all say “This function has been disable by the manufacturer of the disc.” whenever I hit the menu button. Just as a point of fact.

That's why you have to make a back up copy of your DVD before watching it. You can remove all the BS and enjoy your DVD.

While I agree, the law states you can’t do that anymore. WHile you could, they got it changed to say you can’t “alter” anything on the disk, which would include the anti-copy/piracy software, which is designed to stop you from copying the disk. *rolls his eyes* SO, technically we’re breaking the law by making a back-up copy, though it’s legal. *chuckle* Politics… *rolls his eyes*
But, that’s part fo the problem, we have to make a freaking back-up copy just to get around BS they are forcing.

Should you REALLY have to do that though? I don't think so.

Just another reason for people to buy pirated copies! Not me though, no, I prefer to sit and watch the trailers as I go ever more insane.

Silly man, you don't pay for pirated material. It's free for download after less than 5 minutes of searching the internet.
That's how I view most movies and even play many games. If I find they're worth the money that's currently being charged for them, then I'll go buy a copy. So far I've only found 7 movies, and 3 games worth paying for. I don't keep track of the music since the stuff I listen to techno, and there's plenty of it posted for free by the artist, so it's legal to download anyways.

Oh, boo hoo. You have to sit through “insanely boring” trailers and ads. Take a pill. Get over it. Did you like “Avatar?” If everyone owned pirated movies, you could forget about films like that, because nobody would finance them. It's called show “business” for a reason. Be a consumer. Suck it up and consume.

We’re not saying pirating is right, we’re saying what the article is saying, the industry needs to wake up and adapt. They’re saying pirating is causing them to loose all this money every year, but it’s not pirating that’s taking my money out of their pocket, it’s Hulu, netflix and redbox, all of which are adapting to new forms of delivering me media faster and cheaper, and without the BS. Most companies try to adapt to their customers, but not hollywood, they’re still trying to ram the same crap to us, and then when they loose money, they try to blame it on pirating. If a movie rocks, it usually makes money, and lots of it. Avatar as you mention, made BANK. I know people that watched it online for free, and STILL went to pay and watch it in 3D. Some even went back with friends, it was that good. Some people just won’t pay for anything, and that’s them. I saw most of Boondock Saints online, long after it had been out. I had never even heard of it, someone sent me a clip off youtube. It was so damn funny, I went out and bought 2 copies, one for myself in the special tin case, and another for a buddy’s b-day. My point being, there’s plenty of us that are willing to pay for stuff that’s worth it. They can’t just put out crap, deliver it at crappy theaters, and take forever to let us get our hands on it other ways, then whine when they’d don’t make that much. This article talks about changing the system. It’s trying to say that they need to learn that we need alternative delivery methods faster, and possiblity cheaper. I saw Clash of the titans in 3D for $13.50 and have told everyone I know not to bother, at least not for the 3D version, their 3D on that movie blew. It was awesome on Avatar and How to train your dragon. That’s voting with your wallet, tell everyone to avoid crap ass movies and pay for the good ones. I purcahased the OLD clash of the titans the other day for $15, because it’s a classic that’s worth it. I won’t be buying the new one. That’s voting with your wallet.
Take a pill and suck it up? Nice consumer, take what they force you, go ahead. I choose to tell them they’re assholes and don’t need my hard earned money, unless they earn it themselves.

WTF?! If I pay for a DVD/BR/WETFE then I expect to get down to watching the movie right away and not have someone shove even more adds up my a**. Thats what I would expect when watching a movie on TV where I did NOT pay for the movie and it is being financed by the adds.

Well dan your NOT actually stealing when you download, this is nothing more then media bullcrap hype that you obviously bought into.
in order to steal something you MUST take a PHYSICAL ITEM, such as money, jewelry or a car. when you download your not taking anything only making a copy of it, so no one is losing property.

The this is what you get is nice.. but you forgot this :

When I watched my bought and payed for BSG (battle star galatica) on EVERY dvd, aproximatly 2 times I would get

“the DRM is invalid” and the dvd would stop to play, and I had to watch all the crap again, if you facktor in thouse 2 times of 5 minutes of dont copy -crap, It would be faster to just download it, more easy, and alot cheaper ;)

but im glad I bought it, on a dvd that I cant rip, and use from my NAS server so I can watch it around the house, really iI am glad that I payed for a produckt that has alot less value for me than a free copy -.-

*chuckle* Yeah, that’s another point. When you purchase a copy of a movie, it’s yours. Why shouldn’t you be able to watch it on your phone/video player, laptop, dvd player, whatever. Again they’re not adapting to the media. At least when I buy music, I can put it on everything I own, and carry it with me. As someone that travels for a living, carrying a ton of DVD’s with you is a B!tch. That and anyone that has to go through customs, or check baggage knows some get “lost.” *grumble*
So, instead of carry’in a pile of physical disks, why shouldn’t i be able to dump them on a 1TB portable drive and carry in my laptop bag? This is the change we’re talking about. Some of the Disney movies are starting to copy with a “digital” copy with the DVD; however, they want to put this DRM crap on there so you can only play it with certain players, and from 1 machine you originally down load it on.
It just pisses me off to be an honest customer and be treated so crappy, that I WANT to pirate, so i don’t have to jump through hoops.
