UK operator Three confirms that all its phones are now sold unlocked

UK operator Three has confirmed it has been selling all of its handsets unlocked for some time, allowing them to be used on rival networks.

The official announcement follows a report published today by regulator Ofcom, which reveals that Three is the only British mobile network to be offering unlocked handsets.

Three hopes the move will attract more customers by allowing them greater flexibility to sell or reuse the handset on a different network in the future.

If you are a Three customer with phone that was locked when you bought it, you can now unlock it free-of-charge using its new Device Unlock service.

Update: Rival network GiffGaff has since confirmed it too sells unlocked handsets to new customers.
