Maintaining momentum following its rebranding and launch of its new BlackBerry 10 operating system and new smartphones, BlackBerry announced today that it has appointed former Verizon EVP Richard Lynch and former Sony Ericsson CEO Bert Nordberg to its board of directors.
BlackBerry believes that Lynch and Nordberg will each bring their respective “industry knowledge” as executives of both a major US operator and a former mobile phone giant. They will be tasked with seeking “opportunities to leverage the extraordinary BlackBerry 10 platform,” which has got off to an impressive start.
Bert Nordberg was President and CEO of Sony Ericsson, before Sony bought out Ericsson’s stake for €1.05 billion ($1.42 billion). He held the same title at Sony Mobile, until May 2012, when he made way for Kunimasa ‘Kuni’ Suzuki.
Nordberg became Chairman of Sony Mobile Communications’ board at the time, but is no longer listed on Sony’s board member listing on its website.

BlackBerry now counts 12 members on its board, ten of which are independent, but also includes former co-CEO Mike Lazaridis.
