Microsoft’s Tag barcode service to end in 2015, but will live on after being licensed to Scanbuy

Microsoft’s Tag barcode service to end in 2015, but will live on after being licensed to Scanbuy

Just three years after Microsoft Tag got out of beta, it has been announced that the service will be terminated in two years, on August 19, 2015.

Microsoft Tag is a barcode like technology that allows you to embed information into an image, which Microsoft was intending to promote to businesses as a potentially interactive advertisement platform. However, it has now been licensed to Scanbuy, the largest provider of QR codes which runs ScanLife.

Scanbuy will support Microsoft Tag technology on its ScanLife platform starting no later than September 18 this year, and will offer transition and migration services to Microsoft Tag customers — which means that you can continue running campaigns using Microsoft Tags on the ScanLife platform.

Through August 19, 2015, customers will still be able to log in to their existing Microsoft Tag service accounts, use existing Microsoft Tag codes, generate new Microsoft Tags, and run reports as usual.
