Did Microsoft just lay the groundwork for the first Windows Phone 7 update?

Remember the Windows Phone 7 update that includes copy and paste that we have been talking about for the last decade and a half? At long last, Microsoft might be preparing to roll it out to the general public.

What has happened? A stealthy update has been deployed to the Zune marketplace, and Zune is not talking about what it does. Why does an update matter? In the words of WMpoweruser“[the WP7] update needs to be preceded by a Zune desktop update, to enable backup functionality.”

In other words this could be the moment that we have long waiting on, when finally, after endless waiting and delay, Microsoft is going to issue a minor software update to their new phone line.

The update is supposed to carry copy and paste and carrier support. As WP7 for Verizon and Sprint has already been announced, the update is a complete snooze in terms of surprises. It’s last mystery is when it will drop. Microsoft, deliver us to the promised land. Please.
