Microsoft Security Essentials v2 Beta Released

Microsoft has released a public beta of the next major version of their free anti-virus solution – Microsoft Security Essentials.

Security Essentials is available for Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. It comes packed with basic features required in a security application and can match reputed names like Norton and ESET. The new version introduces:

  • Windows Firewall integration
  • Enhanced protection for web-based threats – Internet Explorer integration
  • New protection engine
  • Network inspection system (Not available for Windows XP)
  • New options to tweak real-time scanning to reduce system resources. Screenshot:

Security Essentials was launched last year and has received positive reviews. MSE v2 Beta can be downloaded from Microsoft Connect.
