Saudi Telecom and Acer partnership to package netbooks with mobile data plans

Acer and Saudi Telecom Corporation (STC) have recently signed a partnership agreement allowing customers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) to get an Acer Aspire One D255 with every subscription to Quicknet Action 2.

In addition to the netbook, customers will receive a free mobile modem and a postpaid data SIM card. Subscription includes 5GB per month with the first month free of charge, in addition to free access to STC’s Wi-Fi service across KSA.

According to STC, over 1,000 sites in Saudi Arabia will offer the free Wi-Fi service to Quicknet customers through various STC portals.

This is one of the first netbook operator deal in the region. Saudi Arabia is known to be one of the biggest markets in the Middle East region, which for the longest time was a market where hardware and operator services were independent. Over the past three years, the region has been witnessing strategic partnerships that have allowed the introduction of subsidized devices and locked phones.
