Google Celebrates The Birthday of Umm Kulthum

Um Kalthoom GoogleJust as most of you will dawn upon Google this morning, you will share the rest of the Arab Nation while it celebrates the birthday of Umm Kulthum.

To those of you who aren’t Arabs, Um Kulthum (aka Star of the East كوكب الشرق) was described by Virginia Danielson in Harvard Magazine as:

Imagine a singer with the virtuosity of Joan Sutherland or Ella Fitzgerald, the public persona of Eleanor Roosevelt and the audience of Elvis and you have Umm Kulthum, the most accomplished singer of her century in the Arab world.

After 3 decades of her death, she is still recognized as one of the most famous and distinguished singers of the 20th century.

It’s also worth mentioning that the 10 Arab TLD’s all have the doodle displayed proudly with the exception of Google Libya for reasons only god knows of. See them according to your country: Oman, UAE, Egypt, Algerie, Jordan, Lebanon, Maroc, Qatar & KSA.
