Seedcamp invests in 7 new startups including app-controlled cameras and machine intelligence

When we last caught up with Seedcamp, it had just invested in seven new startups. Now it’s ready to announce its latest batch of investments with five springing from Seedcamp Berlin and two graduates of previous Seedcamp weeks emerging from working in stealth.

Based in Riga, Latvia, Branchtrack allows users to create ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’-style simulations for sales and customer care training online. The company was founded in 2009 when the co-founders’ experience trying to create a branching scenario game for team training led them to realise there was a gap in the market. It offers a limited free plan with paid options starting at $19 per month.

Developed by a team of five based in Berlin, Lateral uses machine intelligence to create bots that automatically generate feeds of news that’s relevant to you, based on what you’re working on. It bases its recommendations on documents you upload to the cloud or previous articles you’ve read and grabs relevant information from news sources and academic papers.

Another UK startup based in London and Newcastle, Now Native builds tools to help publishers open up more native advertising units on mobile – hence the name. It works with native ad suppliers to, it says, get more revenue for the publisher and the ad supplier.

Podo Labs

The only San Francisco-based startup in this bunch, Podo Labs is also the only hardware startup. It’s building Podo, an app-controlled ‘stick-and-shoot’ camera that sticks to practically any smooth, solid surface to allow for remote, handsfree shooting.

The other two new Seedcamp investments are:
